LED Stadium Lighting for Stadion Grünfeld
Professional stadium lighting is about more than just achieving high light levels. Light quality, uniformity, and minimizing light spill are equally important. For the modernization of Stadion Grünfeld, home to FC Rapperswil-Jona in Switzerland, Lumosa developed a tailor-made lighting solution that meets all of these requirements.
Following a four-year development process, the stadium was equipped with 100 Lumosa CS860 Pro LED luminaires. The new installation delivers more than 1,000 lux of horizontal illuminance and over 500 lux of vertical illuminance in all four camera directions. As a result, the stadium is fully prepared for professional football and high-quality television broadcasting.
Maximum performance, minimal light nuisance
The greatest challenge wasn't on the field, but outside it. Homes are located just 55 meters from the stadium, and an agreement was made that no more than 10 lux could fall on their facades.
To achieve this, Lumosa developed 450 mm long mirrored light shields specifically for this project, and further optimized the reflectors. In addition, over 100 Relux simulations were carried out during the design process to determine the ideal light distribution. The result speaks for itself: less than 7 lux is measured on the nearest homes, while an even light distribution is achieved on the field that meets the highest requirements for stadium lighting.
From lighting design to a perfect end result
After four years of developing, testing, and optimizing, the new LED stadium lighting was completed in August 2022. The installation consists of four 40-meter-high light masts with a total of 100 Lumosa CS860 Pro luminaires.
At the first switch-on, the complete installation immediately performed exactly according to the lighting design. Thanks to LumosaTouch (NSW++), the lighting can also be easily controlled via push buttons or an app, making various lighting scenarios available for training sessions, matches, and maintenance.
